Mather's on 83rd Fifth Anniversary

Mather’s—More Than a Café at 33 E. 83rd Street will celebrate its fifth anniversary in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood with a wide variety of activities taking place June 19 and 20. Operated by Evanston-based Mather LifeWays, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating “Ways to Age Well,” the Café is recognized throughout the Southside neighborhood as the go-to gathering place where active people 55 and better can socialize, take diverse educational classes, participate in health and wellness programs, and eat made-to-order meals.

“Mather’s—More Than a Café is so pleased to reach this important milestone,” said Beedie Jones, Café Manager. “Over the past five years our programs have expanded as well as participation from people who want to stay connected and contributing to the Chatham neighborhood.”

The anniversary celebration starts Friday, June 19, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and continues Saturday, June 20, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Events include portraiture by a sketch artist, music by DJ Chico, a performance by the Mather’s—More Than a Café Chorus and breakfast/lunch specials. One dollar ($1.00) fitness sessions will be held, allowing customers to sample yoga, strength and stretch, Zumba, and more classes.

“Our anniversary will be a landmark celebration with continuous activities taking place both days,” said Jones. “While the classes are specifically for adults 55 and better, the Café is open to the community, so we encourage everyone to bring friends and family to join us.”
