Marshfield Plaza

hI want to go back to a comment from "The Observer" back in February 2009 about this new mall that was built just off of I-57 between 115th & 119th Streets in the 34th Ward:
Ald. Carrie Austin, (34th Ward) was able to bring new retail development to her ward. She had the good sense to oppose the big-box ordinance and her constituents now have a stunning outdoor mall that includes Target (with a grocery), Pet Co., Marshall’s, Panda Express and a host of other stores. Take a look. It right off I-57 (111th St. exit and keep driving to about 119th). I have to say that I was jealous that the complex wasn’t in the 6th Ward. We got our butts kicked on securing hundreds of jobs in the 6th Ward and being able to shop in a wide variety of nice stores.
I drove by Marshfield Plaza this past weekend and it looks very nice. Target is open there and there is indeed a Panda Express open there in addition to another Harold's Chicken Shack.

Jewel is coming! I had already dropped by a store on near 127th and Vincennes which is closing on June 25th and will be replaced by one off of I-57 and in fact another Jewel on 115th & Halsted will also be replaced by the new Jewel at Marshfield Plaza. It looks like it will be a very nice Jewel I would imagine it would be very big and vast.

I wrote about this development on my blog, It's My Mind last year. Someone who was involved with this Plaza had left this comment:
Jewel will be next to Target.

Target is under construction now.

Prior to BBO, Home Depot was strongly considering the project, but decided to go to a suburban location partly because of the BBO and the delay it caused. Jewel is taking the spot that would have been filled by Home Depot.

Jewel and Target will be a great amenity for the community.

Thanks for blogging the story.
Well no wonder Jewel already looks big.

Unfortunately as long as there isn't the land to build a shopping center the more our neighborhoods could lose out on these jobs. Although thankfully we don't have to look far for possible developments whether directly south near 111th & the Bishop Ford or on 83rd & Stewart or even Englewood or directly north on 63rd and State Street.

I forgot about the next possiblity although the amount of land is small on 69th and Wentworth. It would be a great place to build something resembly a neighborhood commercial district although I can like without those strip malls that we're finding on say 75th Street.
