Schakowsky will not seek U.S. Senate seat - Pioneer PressRespect is earned
I was underwhelmed by U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay's high dudgeon over U.S. Sen. Roland Burris' being shown a lack of respect because the Post-Dispatch ran the Associated Press story "Burris remains a Senate outcast" (June 2). Mr. Clay seems to think that the illegitimately appointed Mr. Burris, who seems more bent of self-aggrandizement than accomplishment, somehow is worthy of respect despite having earned none yet.
When he is returned to office by the people of Illinois at the end of his first appointed term, and has survived the Illinois attorney general's and the FBI's scrutiny of his activities in obtaining the office, he certainly will get my respect. (But I'm not betting the farm on that).
