Are you feeling safe on the CTA?

Something to know from this article courtesy of RedEye:
"Going Public" analyzed preliminary assault and battery data previously posted on the Chicago Police Department Web site for January through Aug. 15.

The good news: Incidents of assault on trains decreased this year compared to the same period last year. Battery cases on platforms and trains also decreased.

The bad news: Incidents of assault on CTA buses and platforms rose slightly compared to last year as did battery incidents on CTA buses.

The worst offender was the Red Line, specifically the 95th Street station in Roseland for assault and battery cases, the Wilson station in Uptown for assault cases and the 79th Street station in Chatham for battery cases.

CTA spokeswoman Sheila Gregory told "GP" ridership has increased by 31.6 million rides (6 percent) from 2006 to 2008, which accounts for the possibility of increased incidents.

"The CTA works closely with the Chicago Police Department to monitor crime patterns," Gregory wrote to "GP." "Together we identify areas of concern and deploy additional resources as necessary. Due to intensified efforts, arrests have increased."
Are there any concerns about going to either 79th or 95th to take the L? Does anyone have any information about what occurs on these stops? Can anyone relate to any incidents on the buses?
