CAPCC still wants that new library

Just published a post on that today. They want a new Whitney Young branch to be built similar to the branch that was built in Bucktown Wicker Park.

While it seems CAPCC just seems to continue to ask about it, why is it they don't offer an update on it like what was seen in a status message at the Concerned Citizens of Chatham from September 22nd?
Concerned Citizens of Chatham: The city of Chicago has aquired the majority of the land for the new library to be located at 79th King Drive to 79th Vernon. There is one business holding out. Should the community continue to support that business that is holding up the construction?
Hey I would like to see updates like this at the CAPCC blog.

Anyway the CAPCC blog has had the drumbeat for a new library for a while now and the expection of what this new library will bring will hopefully make it a true asset. I hope it happens!

You can also read this previous post written about that new library here!

  1. Well all this talk about deanding a new library is nothing more than a few individuals holding on to memories. The Whitney Young branch did not go up without a fight in 1969 members of the community and CAPCC fought to get African American contractors involved and they were successful. This current group thinks by continuing talking about it that its going to happen. This is 2009 not 1969 and times have changed and the current CAPCC officers just don't get it that they don't scare anyone.

I like the Wicker Park branch but that was built as a two story because of a lack of land the city could acquire. They have acquired a entire city block for this one and with proper management we can have a orderly library that both adults and children can use at the sae time. Secondly we will be the only community in the city that will have 3 libraries within a 2 mile radius and that does not include the college libraries.

Unless they can prove that their is a unmet demand its not going to and should not happen.
