PHOTOS: West and East of the Dan Ryan Expy at 71st Street

West of the Dan Ryan. Sort of a welcome sign to the Grand Crossing neighborhood.

East of the Ryan. Sort of a welcome to the Park Manor Community.

These are some nice street art both very different and in no way similar. Park Manor sign has leaves and the Grand Crossing sign seems to have some African style art going for it.

EDIT: I just noticed there are also some doves on the Park Manor sign (well sculpture is probably more accurate) in addition to the leaves.

  1. Yes they are great looking signs but what is disappointing is that a 100 year old community doesn't have one (Chatham) but there is one for a made up community "Boystown".

  2. Worlee, I was exactly wondering why Chatham doesn't have such signs.

  3. i'm not sure you should envy the Boystown spires -- they literally phallic symbols.

Do we really want to spend our money on that, or something else?

i'd rather see more sidewalk sales and people walking, shopping & talking down the street myself...even a charter bus to help people get to our businesses...

  4. I believe Alderman Lyle has ordered one for Chatham but where is it? Also,we are on the Chicago neighborhood tours. Unfortunately, when they have come 79th street looked like a disaster area
