CAPCC blog question on salad bars

A recent blog question from the Chatham/Avalon Park Community Council blog:
Do you think all of the Chatham restaurants and grocery stores should have salad bars to combat obesity in our community.
My two cents. I remember when Wendy's used to have salad bars in their stores. You could not only buy a burger, hot potato, or even a frosty. You could go to the salad bar and get some veggies.

That being said I think that I could get on board with this idea. It may be a healthy one, indeed as healthy as having vegetable gardens in our backyards. Hopefully our neighborhood businesses can not only offer salad bars, but what's important on keeping them is of course making money on these.

Other than that let the CAPCC blog know what you think!

  1. While I like "Fresh Prepared". I would have to say that the prepared salads that the chain restaurants offer are basically fresh. The salads are prepared daily either on or off premise. I'm not for salad bars because as we have seen with a number of restaurants in our community(Soul Vegetarian, Cap't Hard Times, etc) they have problems practicing basic sanitation and have been cited and some cases closed. Its puzzuling that this is happening when we are graduating record number of culinary students and have an abundance of culinary programs where sanitation is taught.
