A teenaged boy who was a Chicago Public Schools student, was fatally shot Friday night on the South Side.

Police responded about 7:35 p.m. to a reported shooting in the 6900 block of South Wabash Avenue and found a 16-year-old boy lying in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound to the upper back area, police said.

Reggis Washington, 16, of 7024 S. Wabash Ave., was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. at Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

A Saturday autopsy revealed Washington died of a gunshot wound to the back and ruled the death a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.
