CAN-TV Political Forum: Ald. Raymond Lopez (Ward 15)

[VIDEO] Ald. Lopez is a vocal critic of Mayor Lori Lightfoot and here he is on a recent edition of Political Forum on CAN-TV talking about what's going on in his ward and certainly what's going on in the city of Chicago right now. If you want to hear from your Alderman (or is it Alderperson which just doesn't sound right) especially if you live in Ward 15 here you go!

If nothing else, Ald. Lopez seems to genuinely care about a ward that seemingly has often been neglected over the years. And it has been devastated in the past year not only by the pandemic or civil unrest but by the high incidents of violent crime in the city.

Political Forum with Ald. Anthony Beale (Ward 9)

[VIDEO] I've been meaning to share this since getting the email blast from the Ald. Beale's office sharing the word on this. Ald. Beale has been a vocal opponent of Mayor Lori Lightfoot especially with the unrest going on in the city during our most tumultuous summer. You may have even seen him on FOX News last month and if you haven't here it is.

So here on this recent edition Beale talks about the financial issues facing the city during this pandemic and how he was able to prevent the looting of business in Ward 9.

Political Forum discusses Black county court judges

[VIDEO] Dartesia Pitts - she introduces herself as the outgoing President of the Cook County Bar Association - hosted this recent special edition of CAN-TV's Political Forum with guest attorney Erica Kirkwood introduced as a past president of the Black Woman's Lawyer Association of Greater Chicago. They discuss the fact that no Black lawyers were elected associate judges by county circuit court judges.

I shared this article last month about this fact which will allow you to read up on this subject. Give it a quick read.
You might have seen a regram of this on our ig feed. Ms. Pitts certainly helped to put word out about her CAN-TV program on her ig. I'm sorry I didn't share this with you before it aired so that you could turn in and ask your own questions. Political Forum is normall a live call-in program.

Last year on "Political Forum" #Aldertrack

[VIDEO] Recently over at the "Shedd School" blog, I posted a year old video from 9th Ward Alderman Anthony Beale who made his case for another term on Chicago's City Council. Today this year old video shows 6th Ward Alderman Roderick Sawyer - who had been successful in his bid for re-election in 2015 - on CAN-TV's political forum.

Topics of interest discussed on this program the large lot program in Englewood, the re-entry center on the east side of Cottage Grove, helping ex-cons return to work, more locally owned businesses that will not only add to tax base also hire from the community, an elected school board, development of the State Street corridor in the 6th Ward, snow removal, and concerns over standardized testing for CPS students. Whew...a lot of issues are discussed on these shows I know.

Ald. Sawyer noted how in his second term as 6th Ward Alderman he wanted to really work on further developing 6th Ward communities such as Chatham, Park Manor and Englewood. When he got elected in 2011 those communities were stagnating. He stated that he started his first term planning his areas and then start his second term implenting the plan. I hope he's successful.

Let's see what else I have missed from Political Form for the past year.

Rep. Andre Thapedi on "Political Forum"

[VIDEO] State Representative Andre Thapedi appeared on CAN-TV's Political Forum this week to discuss among other issues his Englewood Violent Crimes Task Force which he had been able to finally pass through the House of Representatives. Of course he also discusses other issues affecting the state such as the budget and of course summer activities for youth.

This program aired this past Wednesday and unfortunately I was slow in getting word out about this edition. If I get the word out in advance as I have done in the past hopefully you would be encouraged to call in with your questions/comments. Political Forum is a live call-in program and often has various politicians on the state and local level appear to answer and respond to questions and comments.

9th Ward Alderman on CAN-TV "Political Forum"

[VIDEO] You know I wish I was more in tune to what's going on the CAN-TV call-in program Political Forum. Now that we're in the midst of municipal election season we're probably going to find plenty of incumbents willing to come onto this show to tout their positions on important issues and their accomplishments.

Last Wednesday December 3rd it was Ald. Anthony Beale's turn to talk about "jobs, raising the minimum wage, cab regulations, red light cameras, and more".

I haven't yet had the chance to watch the video above but everyone who reads this blog is more than free to discuss their thoughts on this appearance. The map of the 9th ward which you have seen here from time to time is shown below.

CAN-TV Political Forum with Ald. Roderick Sawyer on April 23, 2014

[VIDEO] The 6th Ward Alderman Roderick Sawyer full program from April 23, 2014. Hosted by Dartesia Pitts, Ald. Sawyer talks about a variety of issues from the city's pension issues to potholes to parking meters.

Speaking of potholes, the effects of the harsh winter is still with us and the best advice Ald. Sawyer offers is to call 311 to report your potholes.

In addition, in nothng that he has a great relationship with police superintendent Garry McCarthy said that the 6th ward is a target for increased bike patrols and foot patrols in the community. That in addition to private TIF security along Cottage Grove between 79th & 87th Streets.

BTW, there was a caller about the debris at 75th & King Drive that was the result of a fire in January. On this program we learn that this property is owned by the same people who own the Chatham Village shopping center on 87th & Cottage Grove.

EDIT: It's possible I may have misheard the information from the program. Worlee corrects the record in the comments below.

CAN-TV: Ald. Fioretti on Political Forum

[VIDEO] In generally I do try to focus on nearby Aldermen, 2nd Ward Ald Bob Fioretti was on CAN-TV's political forum this week to discuss the ward maps, the city's pensions, downgrading of the city's bonds by Moody's, and whether or not he will run for mayor next year. Also on the ward maps, he announced that in early April oral arguments will be heard in the 7th Circuit on the new ward map. Other than that, something to watch today.

Capitol Fax: Quinn attends huge anti-Rahm rally

[VIDEO] Rich Miller shares this video of a rally that took place at the UIC Forum yesterday. He describes this rally as a "blatantly anti-Rahm rally". This rally was alluded to in a status from RAGE's FB page.

If you read Miller's CapFax at times you may have seen reports how Gov. Quinn and Mayor Emanuel seem to butt heads at times. Now that it's about time for re-election for Quinn next year and Emanuel in 2015, it was noted by Miller that while "He didn’t really say all that much, but his presence at that rally likely won’t go unnoticed by the 5th Floor." The Governor's remarks are at about the 1hr 28min mark in the vid embedded above.

NOTE: The original vid was taken down on YouTube at some point and I added the most recent uploaded vid of this event by CAN-TV.

A lot of quotes were taken by this Tribune article about the "Take Back Chicago" rally from yesterday. In RAGE's status this was described as a rally of "thousands of community & union members to launch a powerful shared economic justice platform!!". Furthermore they also noted that "We are full support of #takebackchicago - We continue our work because we want to #takebackenglewood too!!

Speaking of re-election for the Mayor in 2015 could two Alderman possibly be angling to run for Mayor in about 16 months. This WBEZ article explores that possibility, although I could believe Bob Fioretti (2nd) might be more apt for a run than Scott Waguespack (32nd) since Fioretti has been essentially drawn out of his near south side ward in the remap.

VIDEO: Special Call In Show with RAGE - Whole Foods in Englewood

[VIDEO] Not long after the news about Whole Foods Market coming to Englewood, RAGE recently aired the latest edition of their live call in show Englewood Call. It usually airs every Wednesday at 7:30 - you can always watch the program live on the CAN-TV website - and the first edition aired last month. This program talks about Whole Foods and aside from one disrespectful call it recorded callers who definitely had feelings both positive and negative about this development. Run time is about 25 minutes.

Also Whole Foods donated $100,000 to Growing Home's urban farm at 58th/Honore according to DNA Info
The executives' donation will go toward building a new greenhouse and hiring eight more interns, according to a statement from the mayor's office.
...
While none of the farm's produce ends up at Whole Foods now, the mayor's office said the Englewood grocery store could be a buyer once it opens in 2016.

"We would, of course, be elated if Whole Foods wanted our produce," Harper said. "We're very appreciative to see how Whole Foods will partner and work with the community."
