Did you hear about a shooting at 87/Dan Ryan late last month?

 

[VIDEO] I've wanted to post this since I found out about this on social media. The video above was posted to CBS Chicago's YouTube channel on June 25 and if I got the timing correct as I listen to the narration by reporter Charlie Del Mar this incident occurred the day before on a Thursday morning.

The man who recorded this dramatic footage Huber Pereznegron was sitting right behind when he sees a gunman get out of a vehicle to shoot at another vehicle somewhere ahead of them. This is a very scary situation to be a witness to and thankfully Pereznegron and his passenger weren't hurt in this incident.

This all happened at 87th and the Dan Ryan we know this is often a busy thoroughfare. How many people shop at that Jewel-Osco or go to that Chipotle or Wendy's? Conversely how many people shop at that Home Depot, Marshall's, or Food 4 Less?  How many people hear about this incident and choose not to go into those stores even if this is a rare incident?

Be careful out there.

CBS Chicago: Large Crowds Show Up In Chicago Loop, Prompting Police Response

 

[VIDEO] I got caught up in this on Saturday night. Thankfully I was away from the action as I saw a line of Chicago Police vehicles along Washington Blvd from State to Wabash and then to Michigan Avenue at least. It appeared the focus was near the Christmas tree in Millenium Park.

CBS Chicago: Some Aldermen Furious With Mayor Lightfoot Over How Looting Was Handled

[VIDEO] Ald. Anthony Beale (Ward 9) and Ald. Raymond Lopez (Ward 15) should be commended for calling into question Mayor Lori Lightfoot's response to the chaos in the city that spilled over from downtown into the neighborhoods on the city's south and west side on May 30 & 31. We see how the communities of both the 9th and 15th ward and other parts of the city was very devasted by the civil unrest that resulted in looting and vandalism.

I'm glad that the measures put in place in response to the unrest caused by the death of George Floyd when he was arrested by police in Minneapolis, Minnesota last month are being lifted. The civic unrest occurred just as the city was about to reopen after just about two months of shutdown due to the coronavirus.

While the city began to reopen on June 3, 2020 as planned I'm glad that the curfew has been lifted. Hopefully traffic in the city's downtown area will begin to return to normal once the bridges downtown are lowered (they were raised in an effort to control traffic into and out of downtown). Hopefully there will be further efforts to get things back to as close to normal as possible in the city's neighborhoods, especially on the south side.

BTW, I want to especially note the clash between Ald. Lopez and Mayor Lightfoot that resulted in a profanity laced argument between both on a conference call. I've heard Lopez on the radio over the past week as far as the looting in his neighborhood and I could tell he wasn't very happy with the response.

CBS 2: Homeless Shelter Shut Down After CBS 2 Exposes Disgusting Living Conditions

[VIDEO] I found this CBS2 report from this morning. A Little Bit of Heaven men's homeless shelter (11321 S. Wentworth Ave) was shut down after reports of appalling conditions for residents. It took an anonymous report to bring this to the media's attention and then ultimately the city followed up on other violations there were violations shown in this report that went back to 2018.

CBS Chicago: Off-Duty CPD Officer Injured By Suspected Drunk Driver On Dan Ryan

[VIDEO] You might have seen this on the CBS 2 over the weekend. An off-duty police officer in a car accident on the Dan Ryan near 79th Street. The driver that hit him was charged with DUI, you will see him in this report struggling with a sobriety test.

CBS Chicago: Carnival Set Up Near Dan Ryan Expressway Causes Safety Concerns

[VIDEO] While this carnival will be leaving on July 2nd, we see a local resident concerned enough about the closure of Lafayette Avenue and the clearance for traffic going onto the Dan Ryan Expressway. We also see some aspects of the measures made by the company Modern Midways to insure the safety of those who choose to patronize this carnival.

CBS 2: Park Manor Residents Tired Of Building Eyesore

[VIDEO] We've heard about this building since the winter. A dollar store and the building it inhabited on the corner of 75th/King Drive burned down in January. Now the residents near that corner wants to see that lot cleared of all debris from the fire.

Update on 75th King Drive

Courtney Gosslin from Channel 2 was out today and did a report on the condition of 75th King. She stated the story will probably air at 5-6pm tomorrow.
