Time for city sticker sales

It's that time of year again for your city of Chicago sticker sales and you can buy them at an Alderman's office for example according to this calendar from the Chicago City Clerk on Tuesday you can purchase your city sticker at the offices of Ald. Roderick T. Sawyer (6th ward) and Ald. Tom Tunney (44th ward).

As a matter of fact Ald. Sawyer's @6wardchicago ig page shared an announcement:

Went to the Alderman's office for city sticker sales...

I have to accept since now that we have a new Alderman, that Sawyer will do some things much differently than Lyle has. It could be how to inform the community, how they handle service requests, etc. So another example of that is the city sticker sales.

This was the fastest I've been waited on for purchasing a city sticker. Perhaps the weather kept some people away this morning which was when I dropped by the office @ 463 1/2 E. 83rd Street which was sometime after 10 AM. There was no line outside of the office and Alderman Sawyer and Chief-of-staff Sleet was outside to greet people doing sticker sales.

The office from the outside just seems so small but then you go inside. I had to ask an office worker where to go for sticker sales and was directed straight towards the back. And it didn't seem like a long wait before I was able to walk to a register to complete the transaction for a city sticker and residential parking permit. I would give it at least 10 or so minutes. In fact before I left Alderman Sawyer told a constituent about the short wait for a city sticker.

BTW, there was a lady who I believed was with the City Clerk's office who was just friendly. I'm giving her some credit for that although, there was some woman who she said she was trying to start a convo. Most of us already know what we're here for and if there are any questions surely they would know to ask. Going into this office, it's a lot huge than I thought it was and there was enough room for city clerk employees to do their transactions.

Then I walk back out on 83rd Street with the Alderman and Sleet outside I see a truck (which just so happens to be a hot dog stand) with a smoker on the street. Perhaps for those who are hungry when they come out of the Alderman's office. For certain this was a day of activity even if there will only be Aldermanic office sticker sales here in the 6th for today only.

The Expired Meter: How To Get That #@%! City Sticker Off Your Windshield

It's that time of year again to start purchasing the city sticker for your vehicle. The first question I'm sure many of you have is, how do you get last year's city sticker off of your windshields? Well the Parking Ticket Geek has provided us with 10 tips to remove last year's sticker from your vehicle's windshield.

For next year's sticker, you may want to consider using Sticker Shield. (It's tip #6). It will make removing stickers easy. However, please not that new city stickers include your license plate number, so you can't transfer the sticker between cars.  This is important to remember if you want to avoid a parking ticket.

BTW, you can buy your city sticker next Monday - June 27th - from the Alderman's office located @ 463 1/2 E. 83rd Street between 9AM to 5PM. If you can't make it to the Alderman's office these are other locations courtesy of the City Clerk's Office where you can buy a city sticker. After a grace period city sticker enforcement will begin on July 16th

City Stickers available at Ald. Sawyer's office on June 27th

City stickers are available for purchase (renewal or new) from the City Clerk's office, as well as several locations around the city. See the official website, at www.chicityclerk.com for more details.

On Monday, June 27th, the city clerk will be at Alderman Sawyer's office in the 6th ward, from 9am to 5pm. The address is 463 1/2 E. 83rd Street. This location will have stickers available only for that day.

Went to buy a city vehicle sticker at the Alderman's office...again

Unlike my last experience a couple of years ago, there was less of a line standing outside of the office. There was a lone older gentleman handing out tickets for our place in line. The wait was relatively short since I was back out within half an hour.

What probably helped was that I came in relatively early which is not long after the scheduled starting time for city sticker sales. I would expect also that a lot of people had bought their city stickers already to at least avoid that July 15th deadline although it has been extended until the end of the month.

I would like to offer a comment to the city clerk office. It's great that they'll offer their services in the various wards of our city. Without hopefully having to travel very far from their homes to buy a city vehicle sticker. Otherwise city residents will have to either find a currency exchange or other vendor such as Seaway Bank to buy their stickers and permits in addition to going to offices of the City of Chicago in the neighborhoods in addition to going directly to city hall.

Anyway, I was purchasing a city sticker for my mother and since I only was prepared to pay for a city sticker I didn't write the check for a parking permit as well. I for some reason thought that the permit was already included in the price of a sticker if the permit was only going to be renewed. For the most part if you have a parking permit the vehicle sticker serves as the parking permit.

All the same I was prepared to use another method to pay for the permit. I had a check and I said that I could debit it. According to the young lady who was educating me, she said that they don't accept partial payments. So the comment is that the city clerk office should consider allowing people to split their payments on city stickers and permits between two methods. Well that's my idea and I'm sure it will be beneficial to a number of people around the city.

Just a reminder of this city sticker post from 2 weeks ago.

On July 13, 2010 the Ald. Lyle's service office @ 406 East 75th Street will conduct vehicle sticker and parking permit sales from 10 AM to 6 PM.

The deadline for having the stickers is now July 30, but don't wait -- put it on as soon as you get it! Otherwise, the Department of Revenue will live up to its name! (Unless of course, you enjoy "donating" $120 to the city).

Clerk’s Office Extends City Sticker Deadline To July 30th

Normally today, June 30th, is the day your old Chicago city vehicle sticker expires and must be replaced on your car’s windshield with the 2010/2011 sticker.

Of course, the city traditionally gives stragglers a two week grace period to purchase and affix their $75 decal, making July 15th the ultimate deadline before drivers risk a $120 ticket for “failure to display” their city sticker.

But this year, because of an un-sticky situation, the Chicago City Clerk’s office has announced an unprecedented 15-day extension of the city sticker grace period extending the deadline for until July 30th.

This break from tradition is due to quality control issues the Chicago City Clerk’s office has been facing with this year’s stickers.

As reported last week, small batches of the first shipment of defective city stickers did not have enough adhesive to keep them affixed effectively to windshields. While complaints in the very first days of June alerted the Clerk’s office to the problem, and forced them to take quick action in tossing out what remained of the first shipment of 125,000 stickers, enough of the defective decals were mailed to drivers to make it an issue.

Please note that on July 13, 2010 the Ald. Lyle's service office @ 406 East 75th Street will conduct vehicle sticker and parking permit sales from 10 AM to 6 PM.

Last chance to buy a city sticker from Alderman Lyle's 6th Ward office

This is a follow-up to last month's city sticker post.

The date and time: this Saturday, July 11, from 9am - 12:30pm.

Get your city sticker at Ald. Lyle's office TODAY \!

You can purchase your city vehicle sticker in person at Alderman Lyle's 6th Ward office, but only on Tuesday, June 16, from 10am to 5:30 pm. (You may also visit the office to purchase a sticker on Saturday, July 11, from 9am - 12:30pm. However, the stickers are supposed to be placed on your car by July 1)

Note: If you have an "unusual" vehicle like a large passenger vehicle, such as an SUV , you can not renew the sticker online. You actually have to come in person. (I tried!)

Second note: Starting this year...if you have permit parking on your street, you can combine the permit sticker along with your vehicle sticker. You still have to pay extra for the permit, but you will just have to place one sticker on your windshield.

You may also get the sticker at the City Clerk's main and satellite offices as well as several other alderman's offices (at designated times). There are also private vendors who will sell legitimate stickers, for an extra fee. See the city clerk's list for details. (The drive-thru market on 87th is not one of those vendors. Neither is the Bootleg man). Here's the web page for all possible vendors.

Not that this is an incentive, but JP Paulus, the other writer on this blog, plans on being at the alderman's office around 5 pm or so to get a sticker. (He'd be the white guy walking in)

Aldermanic sticker sales

It's that time of year again and your first opportunity to buy a sticker at Ald. Lyle's office at 405 E. 75th Street (or approximately the northeast corner of King Dr. & 75th St.) will be on Tuesday June 16, 2009 from 10 AM to 5:30 PM and on Saturday, July 11, 2009 from 9 AM to 12:30 PM.
